このリリースは、大容量アプリケーションでの使用のための PostgreSQL の改良です。
このリリースにおける大きな変更は以下の通りです。
vacuum がテーブルをロックしなくなりました。 これにより、通常のユーザはvacuum 処理の間にアクセスすることができます。VACUUM FULL という新しいコマンドは、テーブルをロックする古い vacuum 処理を行い、ディスク上のテーブルのコピーを縮小させます。
トランザクションが 40 億を越えたインストレーションの問題はなくなりました。
OID は省略できるようになりました。ユーザは OID の使用が多過ぎる場合に OID 無しのテーブルを作成することができます。
システムは、ANALYZE 時に列統計情報の度数分布を計算するようになりました。 オプティマイザはより良い選択ができるようになります。
新しい MD5 暗号化オプションによって、より安全な格納やパスワード通信ができるようになりました。新しい Unix ドメインソケットの認証オプションが Linux やBSD システムで使用できます。
管理者は、新しいテーブルアクセス統計モジュールを使用して、テーブルやインデックスの使用に関する、粒度の良い情報を入手することができます。
プログラムとライブラリのメッセージが、複数の言語で表示されるようになりました。
以前のリリースからデータを移行する場合、pg_dump によるダンプ/リストアが必要です。
以下の非互換性について検討して下さい。
VACUUM コマンドのセマンティックスがこのリリースで変更されました。これに伴い、保守手順を更新する方が良いでしょう。
このリリースでは、= NULL による比較は常に偽(より正確にいうと NULL )を返します。以前のリリースでは、自動的にこの構文を IS NULL に変換していました。postgresql.conf のパラメータを使用して、この以前の動作を有効にすることができます。
pg_hba.conf と pg_ident.conf 設定ファイルは接続時に毎回ではなく、SIGHUP シグナルを受け取った時にのみ再読み込みされるようになりました。
octet_length() 関数は圧縮しない状態のデータ長を返すようになりました。
'current' という日付/時刻の値は使用できなくなりました。アプリケーションを書き換える必要があります。
timestamp()、time()、および interval() 関数が使用できなくなりました。timestamp() の代わりに timestamp 'string' を使用するか、CAST を使用してください。
SELECT ... LIMIT #,# 構文は次回のリリースから削除されます。問い合わせを例えば LIMIT 10 OFFSET 20 のように LIMIT と OFFSET 句を使用するように問い合わせを変更して下さい。
